The western New York distributor, Fruit Fresh Up, Inc. has recalled 4,800 packages containing cantaloupe due to possible Listeria contamination. The fruit that possibly contains the bacteria includes cantaloupe chunks, cantaloupe slices, gourmet fruit salad, small fruit salad, small and large fruit salad with pineapple, Fruit Salad with Kiwi and Fruit Trays.

The packages were sold between August 31st and September 11th in the Buffalo area through stores and caterers.  This recall was issued because the cantaloupe could be linked to the larger recall of the fruit from a from in Colorado.

Listeria can be pretty serious.  Symptoms include stiffness, nausea, headache, fever, abdominal pain and diarrhea.  If you think you are ill after eating cantaloupe from Fruit Fresh Up, Inc.,  you are urged to contact your doctor as soon as possible.  No illnesses have been reported so far.  Anyone who has possible contaminated cantaloupe should return or destroy the fruit.
