So far so good for Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Kentucky Speedway. Junior won the pole Friday evening by setting a new track record in qualifying for tonight's Quaker Oil 400 Sprint Cup Series race.

Earnhardt Jr. has never won a race from the pole. But then again he has had only 11 chances to do so. Friday's pole at Kentucky is the 12th of his career. Maybe it will happen tonight. Earnhardt has not started better than sixth this season until now.

Carl Edwards was second fast and will start from the outside pole. This is the fourth race in a row that Edwards has started in the top three. Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Marcos Ambrose round out the top five starters.

Nine drivers broke the old track record set by Johnson last year. One of those is defending champion Brad Keselowski. BK won the rain-shortened Nationwide race at Kentucky Friday night and will start 8th in tonight's Cup race.

Here is the complete starting lineup.
