I've lived in the Capital Region almost my entire 33 years and I feel like I am constantly discovering new things all the time. I can't tell you how many countless times I've been to Empire State Plaza: for a show, for fireworks, for the sheer beauty of the architecture and failed to notice one of the most important pieces within its surroundings.

I ran into it completely by accident, in fact I thought I had lost my wallet. I'm sure you've felt that panic before, am I right? I had an event for the Ski and Craft Beer Showcase over the weekend and I went to get myself an Italian ice because well, it's delicious. I grabbed my bag for my money and my heart sank to my belly. I ran - literally - through the convention center, through the plaza and up the stairs to the outside. Waiting for all the traffic made 30 seconds feel like 30 minutes. I crossed the street, ran up to my car - phew! There it was, laying on the passenger seat. It must've fallen out of my bag, it happens.

But then it happened. I looked to my right and thought, "hmm, why haven't I noticed that before?" It was the New York State Women Veterans Memorial and what better timing than with Veterans Day coming up on Friday?
