In an effort to avoid millions of dollars in fines, hundreds of signs along New York state highways must be removed.  If you have traveled anywhere on New York state highways, you have seen those "I Love New York" blue signs along the road. There are five hundred and fourteen throughout the state and they all must come down.

It was a major expense to put them up, it will cost a lot to take them down, but not as much if they don't come down by September.

The federal government has been holding $14 million in highway funds for New York state until the signs are taken down. Turns out the Federal Highway Administration says that the signs are a major distraction and illegal. There has been a two year battle about these signs.

The removal will begin next month and the state has until September 30th to remove all signs. After this is completed, the highway funds will be reinstated.
