Howe Caverns in Schoharie County will soon begin giving their Signature Rock Discovery Tour which will bring visitors beyond the end point of the traditional tour into a section that's been off limits for more than a century! Say what!?!?!

According to the story from Time Warner Cable News, the property was previously owned by several cement companies ever since the late 1800s. But now it's open!

Howe Caverns General Manager Bill Gallop says,

"At the end of the boat ride there is a chain up that says ‘No entry beyond this point. Everybody always asks what's behind there, what's behind the dam doors?'"

And now we'll know! I've heard it's wet and rocky, a little challenging, but super exciting.

I think it's so cool to be exploring a new place that people haven't set foot in for over 100 years. Amazing!

I'm definitely taking the kids this summer. The folks at Howe Cavern say that even if you've been to the caves before, now is the time to discover, or re-discover this local treasure again!

The Signature Rock Discovery Tour begins May 3. For more information, visit the official Howe Caverns website.
