We closely followed the tragedy in Herkimer, New York as a gunman shot 6 and killed 4 at a Barber Shop and a Car Wash. In the end, the man was shot by police, but sadly we lost the FBI K-9 known as Ape.

According to the Times Union, the 2 year-old German Shepherd, had only been on duty since Feb. 25, 2013.  As Ape entered with the FBI officers, he was shot by the gunman before they fired back and ended the standoff situation.

As we take a moment to salute Ape (pictured below), we would like to honor all the other K-9s, their trainers and families for the unconditional love and dedication that they display every day on the job, no matter how dangerous.
