Two local schools here in the Capital Region have been named semifinalists in the 2012 Grammy Signature School program.  Guilderland High School and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School are in the running for an award.  A total of 125 schools nationwide were named as demonstrating “outstanding commitment to music and education.”

The way the program works is the schools actually apply for a grant and provide information about their music programs.  Once all the applications are received, they are reviewed and then more information is sought from any school that becomes a finalist.

Even though it's a huge accomplishment to have made it this far in the program, it would be nice for these schools to get financial recognition as well.  The schools could receive grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 if they win.  The awards are set to be announced in March.
