The Green Island Bridge will be closed for a brief time tomorrow.

Routine maintenance will take place tomorrow, Wednesday September 21, 2016.  In order to complete the work, the bridge will be closed from 8 am – 2 pm.

Part of the maintenance that will be taking place on bridge, includes greasing the support cables.  To do this, the bridge will be lifted and lowered multiple times throughout the 6-hour closure.

I know the timing may not be the best, it is right smack at the start of the workday, but this would be a cool thing to see.  I don’t think I have seen this bridge raised.  Maybe I will have to leave a little early to see if I can catch a glimpse of the bridge lifting.

The Green Island Bridge is one of the few remaining draw bridges in the area. It was built in 1982 after the former bridge collapsed in 1977 when ice took out one of its piers.
