We all know that the summer months can get really hot here in the Capital Region. The Governor's Office has announced that it is offering millions in assistance to those who may need to buy an air conditioner this summer to battle the heat. Here are the details. According to a press release from the New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, millions of dollars have been earmarked for those that may be suffering from health issues due to extreme heat.

The New York Governor’s Office along with the Home Energy Assistance Program (HEAP) announced that six million dollars are available to help New Yorkers suffering from serious health issues that are aggravated by extreme heat to purchase an air conditioner.

If you want to apply for the free air conditioner you must first qualify and meet the existing HEAP requirements and income guidelines. These are different for each household by size. Also, one member of the household must have a documented medical condition that is excessive during extreme heat. The assistance is on a first come first serve basis.

Social services departments in each county will be accepting applications through August 30th or until the funding runs out. To find out if you are eligible or what you need to do to sign up to get funding for a free air conditioner, click here.
