1988- Garth Brooks signs with Capitol Records.  Ironcially, the same label that gave his mother, Colleen Carroll, a record deal in the '50s.

1978- Emmylou Harris is at the top with Delbert McClinton's 'Two More Bottles Of Wine.'


Red Foley, 1910. 'Chattanoogie Shoe Shine Boy' 'Ol Shep' and host of the first Country Music Television Series on network television, "Ozark Jubilee." Dies is 1968.

David 'Stringbean' Akeman, 1916. Popular Comedian on the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw.  Murdered in 1973.
