In an effort to encourage kids to get out and enjoy nature, New York State parks are accepting the National Park Service’s Every-Kid-in-a Park pass.

According to the New York State Parks website, the pass will get 4th graders into any state park for free, and anyone in their vehicle will also get in for free. The pass will also work at state historical sites for the holder, and 3 adults can accompany them. New York is jumping on the program to encourage youth to visit state parks and historical sites.

In the age of the smartphone and tablets, kids and adults get too caught up with their electronic devices and do not get out enough. We would all be a lot happier if we spent less time with them, and more time soaking in the outdoors and everything New York has to offer.

4th graders can get their free pass here. And then you could visit a few of these great spots for free with your family!
