Winter is on the way and there are a ton of fun activities to do in the Capital Region. It was just announced when the Empire State Plaza Ice Rink will open and when you can skate for free and get free lessons. It is a tradition in Albany every year to head to The Plaza and either learn to skate or just have fun with family and friends ice skating. Here is all the information you need to enjoy this free fun family activity.

According to News 10 ABC, the New York State Office Of General Services announced that the Empire State Plaza Ice Rink will open on Friday November 30th from 4:30 until 8pm. Open skating will begin after a brief opening ceremony.

There will be free skate rentals available opening weekend (Nov 30th through Dec 2nd) thanks to Hannaford Supermarkets. There will be free skate rentals on Saturdays through December 8th.

If you would like to learn how to skate, there are clinics hosted by the Hudson Mohawk Figure Skating Club on Saturdays December 1st, 10am until Noon, and again on January 5th, February 2nd and March 2nd. To pre-register online go to ny.gov.
