We are supposed to have a very hot and humid summer this year and the Governor has allotted millions of dollars to help New Yorkers stay cool. You may qualify to get a free air conditioner. There is assistance available for those who qualify through the state HEAP (Home Energy Assistance Program) program. According to WIVB, Governor Andrew Cuomo announced that $3 million has been made available for those suffering from health issues that need to buy an air conditioner.

The program last year helped out four thousand households receive cooling assistance. Many of those being assisted with the air conditioners suffer from health issues that worsen with high temperatures and humidity.

To apply or find out if you are eligible to receive a free air conditioner, you must meet HEAP requirements. Applications are being accepted now through August 31st or until the funding is exhausted.
