A man was driving a 2011 Audi on Route 4 in East Greenbush, when he caught the attention of an East Greenbush Police officer, by not dimming his headlights for oncoming traffic.

In a press release from The East Greenbush Police Department, after police tried to stop 20 year old Matthew J. Hotaling from East Greenbush, he lead them on a five mile chase. It all ended when Hotaling crashed his car into a tree, slightly injuring him. He refused any medical attention.

Hotaling was clocked at speeds exceeding 75 MPH, over some winding rural roads. This happened around 12:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2012. Hotaling was charged with battery of vehicle and traffic Law violations including reckless driving, unlawful flight from police and driving without a license. He was also charged with possession of marijuana when that was found on him. North Greenbush Police assisted in making the arrest.

Hotaling appeared in East Greenbush Town Court, and sent to Rensselaer County Jail, in lieu of $1500 bail. He’ll have another court date sometime next month.
