Years ago the local and national alert system that kept Americans in the know on the radios and TV's was the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS) and now the system used to do the same is the Emergency Alert System (EAS).

The EAS system was there passing along flooding information and storm warnings most recently during the devastation our area endured at the hand of Hurricane Irene.

However, the system (EAS) has not ever had a real sea to shining sea national test to make sure in the event of a national emergency that information from Federal Authorities can be relayed in a working order to all of us in America.

That is finally happening on radio and TV stations across the country on Wednesday, November 9th. This will be a test that will consume at least 3 minutes of time. Prior to this test the limit for emergency messages was 2 minutes, so the system will be put through its paces to make sure it can handle the flow of information for all of us should it ever be needed.

The big thing here is just to make you aware of this National EAS Test on November 9th. It will just be a test and we wanted you to be prepared with the knowledge. If the test goes through with flying colors then we can all feel a little safer if we ever have a national crisis.
