It has been too long of a wait, but we are finally seeing the headlights at the end of the tunnel: ride-sharing will be starting soon in Upstate New York!

It has been a never ending conversation and debate among our elected officials, but it is finally happening: ride-sharing services like Uber and Lift will soon be operating in the Capital Region and Upstate New York!

According to NYUP.com, when the New York budget got approved so did a plan to legalize ride-sharing Upstate. All fares will include a 4% state tax, and the Division of Motor Vehicle will oversee the services. NYUP says Uber and Lyft could be up and running this summer.

I still find it puzzling while we have been waiting for Uber and Lyft to become legal here, they have been operating in New York City. If it was legal here, it should have been legal here all along. That said, I'm thrilled they are getting going. Both are super convenient, and in areas like Clifton Park where a taxi may not be readily available, chances are an Uber or Lyft driver will be ready to take you where you need to go!
