We all try to protect our furry friends and sometimes it's good to be reminded of the things that can be harmful to our dogs. The FDA has issued a few reminders and treats to avoid. Bone treats are being flagged by the FDA after dozens of reports of sickness and at least 15 deaths. Bone treats can be uncooked butcher bones that are processed and sold as dog treats. They include treats listed as Ham Bones, Pork Femur Bones, Smokey Knuckle Bones and Rib Bones.

When these treats are dried they may contain other preservatives, and smoke flavorings that could cause sickness in your dog. But the main cause of illness and death is the bone itself. Veterinarians say they have seen the bones splinter causing gastrointestinal problems, cuts, choking, and bleeding. There have been some that even caused death.

You are urged to consult your dog's veterinarian to see which treats and toys are the best.
