Environmental Project Upsetting Some Watervliet Residents

Some of the people that live in Watervliet are not too happy with a company’s composting yard waste.

It’s mainly the people that live in the area of 191 Watervliet Shaker Road, where the facility, which is run by Green Renewable Energy, is located.

Some of the neighbors have been complaining about the bad smell stating that it can be too much. Many of the complaints also mentioned about how they want to see the facility get shut down. The New York State Department Of Environmental Conservation has received several complaints filed against the company. There have also been petitions circulating for the residents to sign.

The Colonie Department Of Public Works Commissioner Jack Cunningham got involved because the location of the property is in Colonie, and it’s zoned specifically for that type of industrial use. According to the story from News 10 ABC, the facility has gone through the proper channels to keep the operation running.
