On Easter Sunday, a very kind family member informed me that she used my name to do a little research. It's kind of her hobby to search people's names to seek out any 'unclaimed funds'.  She informed me that she entered my name to see if I had any lost riches, and it turns out, I have a couple of checks waiting for me!  It's not a scam and it doesn't involve too many steps and I found out it's updated every 6 months. Here's how you can go about claiming your potential lost riches.

New York State has over $13 billion in lost money. Every day they return $1 million to those who file a claim.  I have a little more paperwork yet to fill out, but when I do, I have money waiting for me from 2 different sources.  Could be $20 or could be $2,000, but either way, it's mine and I'm entitled to it.  We shall see.

Lost or unclaimed money gets turned over by organizations required to report dormant accounts to the New York State Office of the State Comptroller. This money includes things like forgotten savings accounts, lost paychecks, and stocks or bonds.
