It has been just over a week since Craig Morgan's son, Jerry Greer, died in a boating accident. On Wednesday afternoon (July 20), Morgan spoke out for the first time, giving thanks for all the support his family has received since the tragedy.

Morgan writes the following via his Facebook page:

"The loss of our son Jerry is the hardest thing we have ever had to endure as a family. Karen and I are so grateful for all of the wonderful people who have shown us unwavering support during this difficult time. There are too many to name here, but we are especially thankful for the Humphreys County Sheriff and Fire Departments, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, and all the additional agencies and volunteers who turned out to bring our son home. We would also like to thank our friends, family members, and Jerry's friends who have all shown us an immense amount of love and support. Additionally, we cannot thank the music and outdoor communities enough for wrapping their arms around us, as well as our industry friends, fans, and all those that loved our son. We are blessed by the outpouring of prayers and condolences from across the world. Jerry may be gone from this earth, and we will miss him every day, but his spirit will live on in our hearts. We will find peace knowing that God has a bigger plan, and that one day, we'll be reunited with him again in Heaven. John 3:16."

19-year-old Jerry Greer, was laid to rest in Nashville on Saturday (July 16). He died on Sunday (July 10) when he went underwater in a tubing accident and did not resurface. An ongoing investigation will attempt to discover why the life preserver he was wearing did not prevent his death.

Since the loss of his son, Morgan has canceled all July tour dates to spend time with his family. Country fans who hope to help Morgan and his family, are asked to make donations to the Jerry Greer Memorial Scholarship. Funds will assist future Dickson High athletes — particularly those with dyslexia. Donations should be sent to: Tri-Star Bank 719 East College St., Dickson, Tenn., 37055.

Greer was one of three sons Morgan has with wife Karen. They also have a daughter together.
