As GNA hosts it's annual Country Cares for St. Jude Kids Radiothon, we take a moment to honor the Country Music legend who helped pioneer and promote this much needed fundraiser.

In 1989, Randy Owen, the lead singer of Alabama, felt so strongly about the work and research done at St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis that he helped launch a campaign.  "Country Cares for St. Jude Kids" is one of the most successful radio fundraising events in America. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has been actively involved in radiothon fundraising for more than 30 years. In fact, hundreds of radio stations across the country have helped raise more than $400 million for the life-saving work of St. Jude, and the St. Jude family of partner stations continues to expand.

In the video below, the Country Music Hall of Famer explains his proud feelings associated with the Country Cares For St. Jude Kids Radiothon, "There's nothing like St. Jude. There's nothing like Country Cares. I just feel like this is one of the things in my life that I was supposed to do."
