As we honor the 35th anniversary of the passing of Elvis Presley (August 16, 1977), today we recognize Elvis' first No. 1 hit. Although many people assume 'Heartbreak Hotel' was 'The Kings' first No. 1, his first chart topper was actually released one year before that signature smash.

Elvis Presley's very first No. 1 record ever was on the Country Music charts with his hit 'I Forgot To Remember To Forget.'  The song landed at No. 1 in 1955 and stayed put for 5 weeks on the Billboard Country charts. Prior to this, Elvis began his career in Country Music with his first singles 'Baby Let's Play House' and 'I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone.'

'Heartbreak Hotel' would become Elvis' second No. 1 hit on the Billboard Country charts and his first No. 1 on the Pop charts.  Elvis was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998.
