It seems like every time you turn around it’s time for another awards show. Well, here we go again. This Sunday night, it’s time for Hollywood’s biggest night: "The Academy Awards", otherwise known as "The Oscars". This will be two years in a row for country music to be part of "The Oscars". Last year it was “The Weary Kind” by Ryan Bingham, from “Crazy Heart”, which by the way did win for best original song. This year, it’s “Coming Home” performed by Gwyneth Paltrow. This was from “Country Strong” which starred Tim McGraw and Gwyneth Paltrow. “Coming Home” is nominated for “Music For Original Song”. It’s up against "We Belong together" from "Toy Story 3", “I See the Light” from “Tangled" and “If I Rise” from “127 Hours”.

As for our hometown touch, it’s the movie “Salt”, starring Angelina Jolie. If you remember, parts of the movie were shot in downtown Albany. “Salt” is nominated for "Best Sound Mixing". It’s nominated along with “Inception", “The King’s Speech”, "The Social Network" and "True Grit". Too bad “Salt” isn’t nominated for best visual effects. I think it would be cool that maybe Albany might be part of the effects.

Even though either movie isn’t nominated for “Best Picture”, let’s cross our fingers for both of them.
