Is the Saratoga sidewalk ban discriminatory? The New York Civil Liberties Union is looking into it.

It was a pretty big deal this summer when Saratoga officials voted to approve a ban on sitting on sidewalks. Well, it turns out it could be violating the right of free speech and 'peaceable assembly.' According to a News 10 story, the New York Civil Liberties Union is investigating to see if this is a case.

There are parties who support both sides here. The News 10 story says some local businesses feel it has led to less 'panhandling and vagrancy' while others feel it has no place, and anyone should be able to sit anywhere.

I take the side of don't we have more important things to worry about? If people are sitting and obeying the law, not bothering others, let them sit.
