Hannaford recently opened a new prototype store and could be the next area supermarket chain to renovate and upgrade their Albany area stores.

As I am sure you have noticed, Price Chopper has been renovating and updating all of their locations to the new 'Market 32' supermarkets. They look great, and the idea is to compete more with stores like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Hannaford could be the next supermarket chain to upgrade.

According to the Albany Business Review, Hannaford recently opened a new prototype store in Bedford, New Hampshire that is designed to compete with Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Hannaford President Mike Vail specifically mentions the evolution of Price Chopper in the article as one of the reasons behind this store evolution. A Hannaford spokesman also said the new format will be eventually rolled out in the 5 states the chain operates in, including New York.

If you have not been to one of the new Market 32 locations yet, Price Chopper really has done a great job with the new stores. From the prepared food to the wide open space to the beer taps where you can get growlers filled, they are great places to shop. Looks like Hannaford will be bringing more to the table as far as your shopping experience in the near future.
