Every few years this issue seems to come up. It’s an effort to get some bars and restaurants in Saratoga Springs to stop serving alcohol at 2:00 a.m., instead of 4:00 a.m.

This time, the effort isn’t aimed at all of the establishments in the city. It’s mainly targeting the places outside of the area in what Public Safety Commissioner Chris Mathiesen, calls the “nightclub district” of Phila and Caroline Streets. He believes that this would help the police keep the city safe, and focus on the current hot spots, and can’t be done if there are bars and restaurants outside of this area that stay open until 4:00 a.m.

According to the story from WNYT, there are many people who think that this is very unfair, especially to the establishments on Broadway, and believe that they do as much business as the places in the “nightclub district”.

No word, yet, about what happened with the vote by The City Council on Tuesday night.

How do you feel about an earlier time for last call for some bars and restaurants and not others? Please take our poll.
