If you travel on Albany Shaker Road under the bridges of the Northway in Colonie, then you probably have noticed that the bridges look like they might be in rough shape.

Well, that’s supposed to be changing.

In the story from News 10 ABC, starting this summer, construction to replace those bridges will begin. I did a story about this project back in June, 2011. So we know that this has been in the works for quite some time.

The New York State Department Of Transportation seems to have a plan that won’t affect drivers that travel over or under the bridges, during major commute times.

The second phase of the project includes major changes to the interchange at exit 4, and possibly a direct exit to take drivers to Albany International Airport. That’s not scheduled to start until 2019.

On Tuesday night, February 25 at 7:00 p.m., NYSDOT will be holding a public meeting at the Sand Creek Middle School, 329 Sand Creek Road in Colonie, about these construction projects.

There’s no word about any of these changes to create an exit 3.
