The 25 Most Anticipated Movies of 2016!

It’s officially 2016. Our Best of 2015 lists have all been published and the new year is upon us, which means it’s time to start looking to the future. Yes, 2015 was a particularly good year for movie fans, but 2016 looks pretty impressive too. You like Coen Bros. movies? We got one of those. You like Star Wars? Yup, one of those too. Critically acclaimed horror movies? Sure. Pixar? Of course. Movies where your favorite superheroes beat the crap out of each other? WE GOT TWO OF THOSE.

We put together a quick list of the 25 movies — a mix of both blockbusters and indies — that we can’t wait to see next year. This will probably change as the year goes on (our 2015 list included Jupiter Ascending, Aloha and Tomorrowland so we’re not perfect), but based on what we know right now, this is it.

Here are the movies we’re looking forward to the most in 2016, in the order of release date (those with no release date are listed in alphabetical order).

Why Leonardo DiCaprio Passed on Anakin Skywalker in the ‘Star Wars’ Prequels

By the year 1999, a time when ‘Star Wars’ devotees waited with bated breath for the triumphant return of their most cherished franchise with not one but three new installments, Leonardo DiCaprio had already done some solid work. He had broken out big as a youngster in role alongside Robert De Niro and Johnny Depp in ‘This Boy’s Life’ and ‘What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,’ respectively. He had proven his chops as an actor with a meaty role in ‘The Basketball Diaries’ and attained full sex-icon status through dreamboat appearances in ‘Romeo + Juliet’ as well as ‘Titanic,’ which also made DiCaprio one of the most highly bankable stars on the planet.

Take a Look at the All-New Batcave in ‘Batman v Superman’

The Batcave is more than just Bruce Wayne’s headquarters in his unending fight against the crime the clogs the streets of Gotham, it’s his special place. His sanctuary. It’s where he can go to get away from it all, though the sophisticated rig of surveillance equipment also gives him unprecedented, questionably ethical access to it all. In the comics, the Batcave was where Batman kept all of his souvenirs from past battles (shout out to the Giant Penny), and in the Christopher Nolan pictures, it was the Morgan Freeman-played Lucius Fox’s fortress of moral ambiguity. But for the upcoming crossover film ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ the newly minted Batfleck will get a cave all his own.

‘X-Force’ Concept Art May Reveal Lineup for the ‘X-Men’ Spinoff

Back in 2013, 20th Century Fox tapped Kick-Ass 2 director Jeff Wadlow to write the screenplay for an X-Force movie, but when Tim Miller’s Deadpool concept footage “leaked” online, Fox fast-tracked the Merc With a Mouth’s solo film and put X-Force on the back burner. We still don’t know much about X-Force — is Wadlow also directing it? Which characters will be included in the lineup? Will familiar X-Men characters appear? — but new concept art may give us an indication of where Fox is headed with the project.
