It was a black tie and evening gown night at the Wynn in Las Vegas last night as NASCAR crowned its new champion Jimmie Johnson and a native from the Capital Region got to enjoy the festivities.

Brian Davies, who is the son of local award winning motorsports journalists Don and JoAnne Davies and hails from the Albany area, has carved out a career in motorsports and NASCAR. His dedication and passion for professional auto racing has taken him to the top of the motor racing world as an employee of Hendrick Motorsports.

Hendrick Motorsports is the winningest racing organization in NASCAR history.

During the week Davies works on the Hendrick owned No. 48 Lowes team for Jimmie Johnson. So with Johnson claiming his sixth Sprint Cup Series championship title, Davies got fitted for a tux and headed to Las Vegas to celebrate the accomplishment with Johnson and his teammates.

It was Johnson's night with the top ten drivers all making speeches to recognize individuals and businesses who helped them achieve success during the season, but it was comedian Jay Mohr who as MC made the night memorable for many by poking fun at a number of drivers in attendance including Danica Patrick, Jeff Gordon and Clint Bowyer among others.

Taste of County Music Festival star Dierks Bentley provided some of the musical entertainment during the awards ceremony along with John Mellencamp who opened the show.
