Everyone knows the NFL is a tough place to play. Every team has to be ready at any given time for injuries, especially in key positions like quarterback.

Alas, even the best laid plans can go astray and that has happened to the Buffalo Bills. Even though they invested a whopping $2.5 million TOTAL in their three potential signal callers for the year, they have found themselves at a loss.

After injuries to their two starting quarterbacks, Kevin Kolb and E.J. Manuel the Bills turned to Jeff Tuel last week to lead the team to victory, he did not. The 22-year-old Quarterback from Washington State actually got burned pretty bad when it was his turn to go from the frying pan into the fire.

Tuel found himself thrust into the gamer against Cleveland after Manuel suffered a knee injury, he promptly threw eight completions on 20 attempts for a total of 80 yards. One of his completions that night was to the other team and he ended with a quarterback rating of 31.

So with Manuel out for at least a few more weeks the Bills found themselves in search of someone to steer the ship while he is gone. After I can only imagine searching the waiver wires, trying to make deals with other teams and trying out a few Wegman's grocery baggers, they found their man right in their own back yard. The practice field to be exact.

The Buffalo Bills are elevating their practice squad quarterback, Thad Lewis to starter. Now before you Bills fan throw in the towel on the season lets remember as I eluded to a minute ago the Rams did find two-time Superbowl MVP Kurt Warner bagging groceries at a supermarket when they were desperate to find a quarterback. That one turned out pretty good for them.

So who is Thad Lewis? Well maybe you remember him leading Duke in college football in 2009. No? Ok, well he DID start one NFL game last year for the Cleveland Browns, and while they lost the game against the Steelers, 10-24, his personal stats weren't all that bad. Lewis completed 22 passes on 32 attempts for 204 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He had a quarterback rating of 83 for that game.

All in all not the best stats but for only one NFL start we have all seen a lot worse, like the start that Tuel had last week for the Bills.
