A 21-year-old man from The Bronx was recently arrested because he allegedly used counterfeit credit cards to acquire cash and property.

Authorities believe Abdulnasir J. Usman has a connection with an identity theft ring in the Albany area. Ushman was accused of being one of three men that are suspects that traveled through the Albany area to use the counterfeit cards.

According to a press release from the East Greenbush Police Department, an investigation began in July, 2013. That lead to the discovery of dozens of questionable credit cards and retail store gift cards that all three men were accused of having in their possession. They all were allegedly counterfeit.

Usman was charged with 37 counts of Identity Theft and Possession Of A Forged Instrument in the second degree. After an appearance in East Greenbush Town Court, Usman was sent to the Rensselaer County Jail. A preliminary hearing will be held on November 5.

The Albany office of the United States Secret Service has been called in to assist with the investigation.
