On April 21 and 22, we will welcome some of the Northeast's finest Country Line and Couples Dance instructors for the annual Country Dance Fest at Saratoga Music Hall.

Meet Country Dance Instructor Brandon Zahorsky

1. How did you get into Country Line Dancing?

I Started line dancing almost 8 years ago at a place that I now teach at, Joe's East West in New Paltz NY. I started out just like everyone else. A beginner dancer! I started dancing three times a week to get the steps right. I was determined to be like everyone else on the floor doing the same thing. As i started to learn what a shuffle step and a coaster step was i began to really get into line dancing. The best part of this was all the amazing people i have met. The line dancing community is one of the most accepting and exciting things i have ever been apart of! Anyone and everyone should experience this at least once so they to can be apart of a great community. As time went on I had a chance to apply my DJ skills to a local club, The Steel House, that has Line dancing every Thursday night in Kingston NY. Following that, two years later I chose to branch out and try choreographing my first dance. This would be the first of 8 dances total that i have choreographed.

2. What are your favorite 'Country' dance songs?

"Baggage Claim" by Miranda Lambert - "Barefoot blue jean Nite" by Jake Owen - "Fish" by Craig Campbell - "My Kinda Party" by Jason Aldean - "Sick of Me" by Miss Willie Brown - and my most current dance "Banjo" by Rascal Flatts. While currently i would have to say my favorite line dance would have to be "This Ole Boy" by Joe Nichols. There is one dance that has stood out in time for me all these years later and that would be "Bocephus" choreographed by Bill Rice. Songs would include "Born to Boogie" by Hank Williams Jr. , and "Call Me the Breeze" By the Mavericks.

3. Where is your favorite place in the world to go Country Line Dancing?

I am very fortunate to be able to dance in my favorite spot twice a week and that is with my local dancers right here in the Hudson Valley! As you can see line dancing has changed my life dramatically. I would not change it for anything and hope that I continue to bring great dances to the floor and keep everyone dancing! See you on the dance floor!
