A black bear wandered into Albany’s south end on Tuesday night.

Black Bear

In a story I saw in the Times Union, this 175 pound black bear was seen by one of the area residents, eating out of a bird feeder. Officers from the Albany Police Department followed the bear as it went through several of the back yards.

Officers from Environmental Conservation were called in, and they shot the bear, using a special tranquilizer. That allowed them to remove the bear from a tree that it had climbed on. After the bear is evaluated at the Environmental Conservation building in Schenectady, it will be released back into the wild. That had to be cool to look out the window and see a bear, and probably a little frightening, too.
