Billy Dean’s Billy The Kid — Flashback Friday [VIDEO]

We’ve come to the end of another week, so it’s time once again to break out another great country song and video from the past with this week’s Flashback Friday.

I celebrated my 36th birthday yesterday, and I gotta tell ya I don’t like the fact that I am getting that much closer to 40. I am still a kid at heart and I miss my childhood days. That gave me the inspiration to feature Billy Dean’s Top 5 Hit from 1992 “Billy The Kid”. The song, co-written by Dean, is about his childhood, but I can certainly relate.

From Dean’s self titled second album, “Billy The Kid” was released in May of 1992 and spent 20 weeks on the Billboard Country charts peaking at #4. It would be a part of six consecutive Top 5 hits that would include “Only Here For A Little While” and “Somewhere In My Broken Heart“, to name a few.

Billy would be recognized in 1992 by winning the ACM Best New Male Vocalist Of The Year, and in the following year, the song would win a BMI Country song award and a TNN songwriter award.

These days Billy is still writing songs- not only for himself, but for corporations. He is part of an endeavor called Song Sessions with fellow songwriters Monty Powell and Anna Wilson. It combines songwriting and corporate team building exercises to help companies “think outside the cubicle”.
