The bell tower had been struck by lightning. What makes this a little unusual is that the church burned to the ground 20 years ago, but the bell tower was actually saved and reused when the church was rebuilt.

In a story that I saw in the Times Union, fire crews extinguished the fire within a couple of hours. News 10 ABC reported that five fire companies responded to the fire. They were all volunteer fire companies. The church had some minor smoke and water damage and it’s believed that the bell tower can be repaired will be used again.
