A woman in Connecticut is suing her 12-year-old nephew for $127,000!

Update - Jury found that the bot is not liable for the injuries. I find this to be great news!

This is a strange story out of Connecticut I could not ignore.
Here are the details in a nutshell. Eight-year-old boy jumps on his aunt as she enters his birthday party, causing her to fall and break her wrist. She is suing for injuries she suffered as a result of the fall.

Here is what I am picturing. An 8-year-old boy so excited for his birthday party, jumps into his aunt's arms when she walks in. Now, I see this all the time, in fact, my niece used to do this to me when I would see her. Kids get excited and they want to show it. Sure, it may not always be the right thing to do, jump on someone, but again, it’s an 8-year-old excited for his birthday. I don’t believe he meant to hurt her.
So, 8-year-old jumps on the aunt when she is walking into the party, the jump caused her to fall and she breaks her wrist. Now, she is suing the boy, now 12 years old, for the money as she feels the greeting was a little exuberant. The aunt also feels the boy should be held accountable for his actions.
First of all, I don’t think an 8-year-old, now 12, needs to be taught a lesson in court over something like this. Also, $127,000? From a broken wrist? From your family? I am sure I don’t know all the details, but this sounds like a little much to me. Kids can only be kids for so long, let's let them be able to have some excitement for their birthdays. We can tell them not to jump on people, but again, a lawsuit over what could have just been an accident, seems a little much. Again, not knowing every little detail, I think the kid was just excited to be turning 8.
I hope the case gets thrown out and the family can work this out. What do you think?
