I'm trying a grand experiment here, and I sincerely hope it works out. I also hope you will benefit from this too in case you have been wondering about these "refurb" deals on the web.  I'll tell you what I ordered and we'll go through the steps

Ok, here's what I did.  I wanted to upgrade my original iPad to one with more memory.  I went on the Apple website and found this

Screen shot iPad refurb
loading...

The price was $499 with free shipping.  Now just for comparison's sake, the new iPad with 64 gig (wifi only) costs $699, so I consider that a great deal, don't you?

Now what are the dangers of buying refurbished?  I can't find any.  Apple replaces the back of the unit, the screen, and puts a new battery in it.  They also warrantee it for the same amount of time as a new one, so I can't really find any holes in the plan here.

I placed the order online this past Sunday.  It took about 5 minutes tops.  Moments later I got a confirmation email saying that the delivery would be on TUESDAY (which is today).  Did you get that?  I ordered on a Sunday and they still say the delivery will be in two days.

So that's where I am right now.  I will go running home after today's Readin', Writin' and Rhymin' appearance and see if it came.  I will have a follow-up article to tell you how it turned out.

Do you have any other questions about the ordering process?  Please leave me a comment and I'll try to help.
