It seems like every time that we turn around, there seems to be another scam that we need to be aware of.

One of the last scams that we told you about involved some Rotterdam residents. Now there’s a scam that’s calling people in the Albany area and leaving a message. It tells the person that “the Internal Revenue Service is filing a lawsuit against you”, and you will need to call a certain phone number to get more information on the case file.

The Albany Police know about this and know that it is a scam. The I.R.S. usually will notify people before any kind of legal action is needed to be taken.

According to the story from WNYT, if you receive one of these scam calls, contact the I.R.S. immediately at 1-800-829-1040, If you do owe them money. They’ll help to resolve your issue. If you don’t owe money, call 1-800-366-4484 and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration.
