Toys-R-Us broke our hearts last year when they announced the closing of it's retail stores in the area.  Today it was announced that another local big box store, this one with ties to the Capital Region since the 80's, is closing it's doors for good.

According to News Channel 13, the last Kmart in the Albany-Schenectady-Troy area is soon to be gone by the waste side. This particular store, which according to the news station has been operating out of the Viaport Mall in Rotterdam, has been in business at the location since the 1980's.

The report states that this Kmart will close it's doors by the end of the year and that the next two closest Kmart locations (in Greenwich and Queensbury) are 'not closing at this time'.

Online shopping has certainly led to the decline of the once big box store bonanza. News Channel 13 reports that 142 Sears and Kmart stores have been closing nationwide after the company declared bankruptcy on Monday.
