Everyone knows we’ve some strange weather this past winter, and it’s still strange. Because it’s been warmer than normal, the growing season for the Albany area starts on Sunday April 15.

Early Growing Season

According to a story from Examiner.com, the National Weather Service released a statement on Monday that the early growing season will also begin for the Lake George / Saratoga region as well as the Mohawk Valley. There are some plants and fruit trees that are already starting to bloom, although this will put those plants and trees at risk if we get a late season frost or possible freeze conditions.

The normal average date for the last freeze in the Albany area is May 3, but we have been known to get snow until the middle of May.

Well, I guess it’s time to dig out the lawn mower and get it ready for a long season. Did you miss the cold weather that we normally get the winter?
