It doesn't seem to matter what part of the country I'm in, I always find a little piece of home.

Recently I took a trip to the Orlando area of Florida. A very planned out, very much needed vacation that was really years in the making. When I looked at the run down of the activities that were planned, it was exciting: Disney, Mets training camp, a Miami Heat game and then when my friend and I go into town we found out the last event we would enjoy was a little taste of home.

My friend, Pat received a text from his friend Pete MacArthur and if you follow any of our Capital Region local teams that name might sound familiar, in fact, it should. He's a forward for the Adirondack Thunder based out of Glens Falls (I'll be hanging out before their home game this Saturday at the Glens Falls Civic Center.) It turns out, the team was playing a game on our last night on vacation, so to the Amway Arena we went!

The Thunder played against the Orlando Solar Bears and their fans are pretty intense. 6,000+ Solar Bear fans vs 2 Adirondack Thunder fans, they definitely won. It was awesome to experience our hometown team skating the ice in the arena that Shaquille O'Neal once called his home court. It was even more exciting to see them compare hometown temperatures to that of Orlando on the jumbo Tron. Yes, Glens Falls was proudly displayed for all fans to see and I'm sure soon forget, but not me. The game was one I'll never forget.

Sure, the Thunder lost 2-5 but to me, it was a win overall to have a piece of home with me while so far away.
