He died from complications from a recent a recent surgery.

I did an article about when he was leaving the program and I can’t believe that I’m reporting about this now. He did his final essay and sign off for the CBS-TV show ’60 Minutes,’ just tow weeks ago.

According to the ’60 Minutes’ website, “Rooney had announced on Oct. 2, 2011 in his 1097th essay for “60 Minutes” that he would no longer appear regularly.”

Andy was born in Albany. He had three homes – in Rowayton, Connecticut, New York City and one in Rennselaerville, in Southwest Albany County. Yes – he was one of our neighbors.

Andy was a member of the CBS network for over 60 years, and behind the camera, writing and producing for at least 30 of them. I believe that even though he is no longer with us, this is one television icon that will live on for a long time.
