It's true, you never know where life is going to take you. One day you are getting a degree at an Ivy league school, starting your life as a Doctor or Scientist and the next you are a TV star.

I'm sure most people know that Matt Damon was actually a student at Harvard when he wrote "Good Will Hunting" or that Jodie Foster went to Yale but there may be a few celebrity "brainiacs" out there that may surprise you.

I stumbled on an article in Business Insider that highlighted a bunch of celebrities who were also valedictorians, Mensa members, and all around brilliant people. Here are the 5 that I found most surprising.

1. Ken Jeong

Of course we all know Ken from "The Hangover", his role of "Mr. Chow" however doesn't quite demonstrate properly his academic achievements. It turns out that Ken is actually a licensed obstetrician.

2. Natalie Portman

I think I knew that she was pretty smart and I may have even known that she was the first graduate of Harvard to win an academy award, but I did not know that she speaks 6 languages and has been published twice in scientific journals.

3. Conan O'Brien

After writing a 72 page thesis Conan graduated, magna cum laude from Harvard University! I don't know exactly what magna cum laude means but I know it's pretty darn smart!

4. Mayim Bialek

Mayim, oh how I adored her as Blossom (Whoa), and I love her again on "The Big Bang Theory", where she plays neurobiologist, Amy Farrah Fowler. It turns out that role isn't much of a stretch as, Mayim received her PhD in Neuroscience from UCLA and specialized in Obsessive Compulsive Disorder  in adolescents with Prader-Willi syndrome.

  5. James Woods
