It was a busy weekend for law enforcement in the Albany area.

The Albany law enforcement officials dropped the habit of announcing their DWI crackdowns, but it wouldn't take a smart person long to realize that the long Thanksgiving weekend would be full of DWI checkpoints around the region.

Apparently a lot of people didn't have common sense and 23 drivers were arrested locally for driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. In all over a thousand drivers went through checkpoints over the weekend and about half of them got ticketed for something. They also use the DWI checkpoints to nail you for expired registration or inspections. If you have a headlight or tail light out they'll write you up for that too.

With Christmas on the way its safe to expect more DWI checkpoints through the season so just be smart and don't drink and drive.
