New York Upstate has ranked the most dangerous cities in Upstate New York based on FBI crime data.

NYUP says they utilized the data, from 2016, to determine a 'crime score' based on crimes per capita and the number of violent crimes versus property crimes for Upstate New York cities with a population over 5,000.

Based on this system, Albany landed at #7 overall and Schenectady was ranked the 10th most dangerous Upstate city. Albany's ranking actually was higher than the city's last ranking of 13 on this list while Schenectady did not appear on last year's top 25.  Two other Capital Region towns cracked the top 25, with Troy landing at #12 and Gloversville at #19. Both of those citie's had rankings that were lower than last year (Troy was #5, Gloversville #14).

Niagara Falls landed at #1 on the rankings, followed by Newburgh and Buffalo at 2 and 3. You can see the full top 25 dangerous Upstate New York cities according to NYUP here.
